Mulleins are brilliant for wildlife but most don't like a clayey soil so we were delighted when this variety did well in our Horfield garden and so were the betterflies and moths.
The flowers are popular with beneficial insects, bees and other pollinators while the leaves provide food for caterpillars of the mullein moth. This short-lived perennial grows to 1.2m high and 1m across in full sun and well-drained soils . It produces long spikes of flowers in pastel shades of cream, pale pink, apricot and mauve from June to September.
The plants we supply will flower in their first year and then reach full size in their second year.
