This European wildflower is a clump-forming perennial with flowers that are popular with beneficial insects, bees and other pollinators. It grows to 75cm tall (with flower stems up to 1.2m) and 90cm across in moist but well-drained soils and full sun or partial shade. It can also grow in full shade but does best with some sun. The pink flowers with black centres are produced from June to August. In autumn the leaves turn an attractive red.
Cut back after the first flowers finish to encourage a second flush of flowers. Don't prune after the leaves have grown back so you get the autumn colours.
