About
We are a new, small business based in Horfield, Bristol. We are passionate about plants, about wildlife and about the environment. After looking for places to buy plants without the plastic pots, peat or pesticides, and failing, we decided to set up our own nursery to do just that.
Our Plants
All of our plants are grown by us here in Bristol from seed (or bulb/corm or cutting) so we can ensure that no peat or pesticides are used at any stage. This also means we can reduce plant miles.
Each variety is tested here in our garden to check it thrives in our local environment (impeded drainage, lime-rich loamy and clayey soils). The notes we provide for each plant will always say if a variety is better grown in a container rather than in our local soil. The photos and videos on our website all come from our Horfield garden (unless otherwise stated).
Who We Are
Catherine learnt how to grow plants from her mum and gran, and she has formal training in botany and ecology. She started out as an ecologist working with wild plant / insect communities at the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and then moved to work on the ecology of insects that bite humans (mosquitoes).
Steve is relatively new to gardening and has had to quickly learn which plants will survive a visiting badger.
Both of us love wildlife and bikes, plus a drink in the garden when all the work is done.
